Homewood Suites earns recognition, ‘duck award’

From Pensacola Business Journal, May 2005 edition

Homewood Suites by Hilton, the national brand of upscale, residential-style hotels, announced its ranking as the nation’s No. 1 upscale extended-stay hotel chain by the annual Business Travel News consumer survey of top U.S. hotels.

“We are proud to be part of the Homewood Suites by Hilton brand and its top ranking in the BTN survey”, said Cindi Hasty, general manager of the 107-suite Homewood Suites by Hilton Pensacola Airport/Cordova Mall area, in the official announcement of the honor.

In other Homewood Suites news, the local hotel had a weather vane on the roof with a duck on top that is the brand symbol. Bill Grier, chief engineer, “rescued” the duck when the weather vane broke during the fury of Hurricane Ivan. The duck became a symbol of hope and recovery for the staff and guests in the days and weeks following the hurricane.

Hasty gave the duck to Frank Saitta, our senior director of hotel performance support, who had the duck made into an award and presented it to the hotel staff at a surprise luncheon to thank them for their hard work and humanitarian efforts toward all guests and those in need after Hurricane Ivan.
